Definition

Performs the more difficult duties in operating, maintaining, and making minor repairs to equipment for Iowa PBS at studio facilities and remote locations including, audio, video, or remote (mobile unit/flight pack) engineering, editing, and acquisition; performs related work as required.

Work Examples

  • Performs all duties of the Production Technician and provides advanced technical support for studio and remote productions.

  • Coordinates with producers, directors, or supervisors to determine production requirements and ensures equipment, facilities, and setups meet project needs.

  • Operates, adjusts, and maintains cameras, lighting, audio, and other production systems to ensure consistent picture and sound quality that meets broadcast and FCC standards.

  • Provides guidance and training to production staff in equipment operation and production techniques; assists with design or modification of equipment or setups to improve technical performance.

Knowledge:
  • Computers and Electronics – Circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. Five years of full-time work experience in the film/video/sound or television industry.

  2. A total of five years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in film, video, journalism, tele-communicative arts, or a related field equals one year of full-time experience.

  3. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in film, video, journalism, tele-communicative arts, or a related field, and experience equal to one year of full-time work in film/video/sound or television industry.

  4. All of the following (a and b):

    1. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

    2. A total of one year of graduate-level education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university coursework in film, video, journalism, tele-communicative arts, or a related field equals one year of full-time experience.

  5. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 6 months of full-time work as a Production Technician.
