The State of Iowa Capitol Complex grounds is home to many trees, benches and picnic tables serving as a memorials to special people. Memorials placed on the Capitol Complex are coordinated through GSE Customer Service by calling 515-242-5120 opt. 3.
Guidelines
- Enhance the publicβs use and enjoyment of the Capitol Complex.
- Maintain the scenic public views to or from the Capitol Complex.
- Compliment existing buildings and monuments on the Capitol Complex.
- Compatible with the Iowa State Capitol Master Plan.
Memorial Bench or Picnic Table
- Donor will order and purchase benches and/or tables for delivery to the Capitol Complex Maintenance offices.
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will provide a list of metal benches and tables suitable for the Capitol Complex.
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will work with the donor to determine location and timelines for installation.
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will assemble the bench or table and install at agreed upon location.
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will install a memorial plaque provided by the donor on benches and picnic tables.
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will make every effort to properly maintain the bench or table. In the event of damage and/or age, the item will be removed. Replacement of the bench or table would be the responsibility of the donor.
Memorial Tree
- Donor will order and purchase the memorial tree through local vendors.
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will provide a list of suitable trees. Memorial Trees
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will work with the donor to determine the appropriate tree, location, and timelines for planting.
- Donor will arrange the services of the local vendor to plant the tree in the agreed location.
- Donor will arrange the planting between April 15 - June 16 or September 15 β October 15.
- Donor is required to follow the Capitol Complex Ground Penetration Process.
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will install a memorial plaque provided by the donor.
- Capitol Complex Maintenance will make every effort to help the tree get established. In the event of damage and/or age, the tree will be removed. Replacement of the tree would be the responsibility of the donor.
