Identify Suspicious Mail

  • Excessive postage in lieu of a meter strip.

  • Leaking an unknown powder, liquid, odor.
  • Misspelling common words.
  • No Return address or fictitious return address.
  • Excessive weight.
  • Protruding wires or aluminum foil.
  • Excessive security materials
  • Ticking sound.
  • Marked with restrictive endorsements - "Personal" or "Confidential".
  • Postmarked city/state is different from the city/state return address

Handling Suspicious Mail

  • Notify management, security and all employees in the area that a suspicious package has been detected.
  • Handle the package with care - Do not shake or empty the contents.
  • Leave the package "as is" - Do not cover or bag.
  • Photograph or capture as much information on the item as possible.
  • Isolate the area if possible. Leave the Room, close  the door, etc.
  • Wash hands, arms, and other exposed surfaces with soap and water
