Definition
Performs complex duties involving the operation, diagnosis, major repair, and maintenance of complex broadcast, production, and IP-based systems at the Network Operations Center (NOC) for Iowa PBS, with specialization in audio, video, digital, and computer-based engineering principals; performs related work as required.
Work Examples
Performs all duties listed in the Studio Engineer.
Operates, diagnoses, and makes major repairs/adjustments on electronic, and electrical equipment associated with the production, editing, archiving, and broadcasting of educational radio/television programs and satellite up/down link equipment.
Responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of equipment, observation of federal rules/regulations applicable to assigned area of engineering and day-to-day compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations applicable to the NOC facilities.
Works with less experienced engineers in the repair of the more complex equipment applicable to the assigned area of engineering.
Conducts performance measurements and assists with training personnel in the operation, diagnosis, and repair of equipment.
Operates, configures, and troubleshoots video automation system in NOC master control center to ensure correct programming reaches all Iowa PBS distribution channels.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Five years of full-time work experience in operating, maintaining, or repairing complex electronic equipment.
All of the following (a and b):
One year of full-time work experience in operating, maintaining, or repairing complex electronic equipment; and
A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in electronics technology, or closely related field equals one year of full-time experience.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in electronics technology, or closely related field, and experience equal to three years of full-time work in operating, maintaining, and/or repairing complex electronic equipment in a radio or television transmitter/translator or network studio.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in broadcast engineering technology, or a closely related field, and experience equal to one year of full-time work in operating, maintaining, or repairing complex electronic equipment.
All of the following (a and b):
Four years of full-time work experience in operating, maintaining, or repairing complex electronic equipment in a radio or television transmitter/translator or network studio; and
Possession of a certificate in electronics technology or a closely-related field from a recognized technical, military, business, college, or university certificate program.
Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Studio Engineer at Iowa PBS.
