Definition
Performs technical work in conducting radiographs, electroencephalograms and/or electrocardiographs; performs related work as required.
Work Examples
Conducts routine and emergency X-ray examinations with stationary or portable machines; develops and processes X-ray films in darkroom.
Conducts X-ray barium studies.
Conducts electroencephalographic recordings; prepares patients by connecting electrodes, recording and marking tracings, and noting unusual signs for the attention of the medical staff.
Conducts electrocardiographic tests by attaching electrodes to patient, manipulating switches, and moving chest electrode to successive positions.
Cares for and maintains X-ray equipment.
Prepares developing solutions.
Requisitions supplies and equipment.
Maintains necessary records, inventories and reports; makes reports on all patients examined.
Assists radiologists in fluoroscopic examinations by preparing and positioning patients, adjusting controls, administering contrast materials and producing films

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
Possession of a current certificate to practice diagnostic radiography as issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health which indicates fulfillment of the training requirements for a "general diagnostic radiographer" and experience equal to two years of full-time work in radiology.
