Sick Leave
Most employees working for the State of Iowa earn sick leave. You may use your unused sick leave when away from work due to an extended illness. As long as you are using your sick leave, you will continue to accrue sick leave hours based on your accrual schedule. These accrued hours are added to your sick leave balance. Your current sick leave balance can be found on your most recent payslip or your HRA can tell you your sick leave balance.
Vacation Time Off
You may use your vacation leave during an extended illness if such use is approved by your department. Your HRA can explain how to request approval from your department.
