Pete the Purple Bull, an original character developed in the State of Iowa, along with his Posse, will introduce his Grand Literacy Plan designed to support elementary school reading initiatives across the State. The program also incorporates the teaching of essential social/emotional skills. Pete the Purple Bull recently published a children's book (Pete's Grand Plan) that has been well received by educators, parents and children. The current Miss Iowa, Mikhayla Hughes-Shaw, has been sharing this book with school children across the State. Pete and his team will have a display that shares important information about Bullying and the social/emotional needs of school children across Iowa. The author and the illustrator of the book will be on hand for book signings. Miss Iowa will be on hand too, to talk about the relationship between Bullying and mental health. Brief, intermittent entertainment will be provided that highlights the musical that has been created, based on the book.
