​Location will be Liberty Bell replica, east of Capitol. No closures are necessary, no food or beverage present, if a clapper/ringer is needed for the bell, Leo Landis, leo.landis@iowa.gov, will be present at 7:00 a.m. monitor after it is installed. The bell will be rung in honor of those killed in the attacks on the United States on this date in 2001. The protocols of 5-5-5 tolling used at firefighter memorials will be used. Toll bells on September 11, Central time is listed, Eastern time is listed parenthetically, 7:30 a.m.: Opening Remarks-Leo Landis, State Historical Society of Iowa, possibly others 7:46 a.m.: (8:46 a.m.) Hijackers deliberately crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into floors 93 through 99 of the North Tower. 8:03 a.m. (9:03 a.m.): Hijackers deliberately crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into floors 77 through 85 of the South Tower. 8:37 a.m. (9:37 a.m.): Hijackers deliberately crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon, near Washington, D.C. 8:59 a.m. (9:59 a.m.): The South Tower collapsed. 9:03 a.m. (10:03 a.m.): After learning of the other attacks, passengers on United Airlines Flight 93 launched a counterattack on hijackers aboard their plane to try to seize control of the aircraft. In response, the hijackers crashed the plane into an empty field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. 9:28 a.m. (10:28 a.m.): The North Tower collapsed, leaving the 16-acre World Trade Center site in ruins and collateral damage affecting all adjacent properties and streets.
