Run For A Cause - In 2016, the Iowa Legislature authorized a public-private approach to the pressing need of repairing the more than forty monuments on the Iowa State Capitol grounds by establishing a matching grant appropriation of up to $100,000. These public funds are now available through the Monument Conservation Fund in the proportion of a $1 match for every $2 raised by private donations. The IMT Des Moines Marathon has partnered with the Capitol Planning Commission to not only spread community awareness about need to restore the Capitol’s monuments, but also to invite donations in order to raise the level of matching funds available towards the restoration of them. This year funds will be allocated towards the restoration of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Donations for monument conservation can be applied during the online registration process or by making a direct donation through the IMT Des Moines Monument Mile – Monument Fund.
