Appliance Policy

The use of small appliances in cubicles adds to the electrical usage of a building and can present a fire hazard.

Appliances with heating coils are not permitted - this includes toasters, popcorn poppers, space heaters, etc.

Use of electric extension cords is prohibited.

Burning candles and string lights are fire hazards and are prohibited in state buildings.

If coffee pots are being used, they should be placed on a noncombustible surface with someone designated to disconnect them nightly. All coffee pot stations should be cleaned daily. Coffee urns should remain empty and stored dry at the end of each working day. Coffee grounds should be placed in plastic liners and disposed of in garbage containers, never in sinks or drinking fountains.
