The Iowa Peace Officer Memorial monument honors all Iowa peace officers killed in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve. Currently the monument is located near the Oran Pape State Office Building, which houses the Iowa Department of Public Safety. Prior to 2012, the monument sat near the Lucas State Office Building. Erected and dedicated in 1985, the monument’s three individual forms represent the three levels of law enforcement in Iowa (city, county, and state). The forms unite in a center pinnacle expressing the ultimate sacrifice of peace officers who have died while protecting the safety of Iowa citizens.
