Department of Administrative Services
DAS has long been committed to finding ways to operate government that are more environmentally friendly or, in today's buzz words, more 'green.' With Governor Culver's signing of Executive Order No. 6, there will be an even greater focus in Iowa state government on how we can lessen our impact on the environment.
Here are a few of the green programs already in place within DAS. You can be sure this list will keep growing, so check back to see what DAS is doing to create a greener government.
Earth Week Activities
Monday, April 18 - Friday April 22, 2011 was a week filled with environment activities!
Check this page again next year for the 2012 events.
Providing the energy to light, heat, cool, ventilate, and run an increasingly technological state government located in 1.9 million square feet of space on the Capitol Complex is a major task – and expense. To keep costs as low as possible, the Department of Administrative Services uses several energy conservation techniques.
Green Buyer Program
This site contains helpful resources to assist Iowa government agencies with purchasing environmentally friendly products.
Green Cleaning Initiative
In January 2008 the Department of Administrative Services began converting buildings on the Capitol Complex and at the Iowa Laboratory Facility in Ankeny to use ‘green’ cleaning products.
